Politicians promise help for DON-damaged corn

November 29, 2018 - Federal and provincial politicians say they are going to help Ontario farmers whose corn crops have been hard hit by mould that grows DON mycotoxins.

But other than announcing application forms will be available to recover the cost of testing corn for DON, they offered nothing more as immediate help as farmers try to decide whether to harvest their corn or what to do with harvested corn tainted with relatively high levels of DON

What they are saying is that they are going to work with the industry to try to figure out what to do with this harvest and with the Grain Farmers of Ontario to develop strategies to avoid similar crises in the future.

Grain Farmers of Ontario has said there’s not enough information in the announcement and that immediate help is needed.
